What makes this program, "God's" way?

There are many parenting programs that have Biblical principles woven throughout their fabric. Those programs can help families become more effective within their family life. Nurturing God's Way Nurturing Parenting Program for Christian Families® is based on the relationship of God as our heavenly parent; Christ as our earthly role model and God in human form; the wisdom and guidance bestowed upon us through the Holy Spirit and, the Biblical scriptures which is God's word to us. Therefore, it is considered to be "God's" way.

Does a facilitator of this program have to be a Christian?

We look at it from this perspective: Can someone who has never ridden in a car nor had any experience in repairing an automobile teach someone else how to rebuild an automobile engine that runs smooth and efficient? Because this program is experiential, and the fact that the facilitators will need to complete the assignments along with the parents so they can speak from experience, we highly recommend that all facilitators are mature in their Christian faith and have parenting knowledge relative to the audience with whom they are leading.

Do I have to be trained as a facilitator before I present a program?

If a potential facilitator has good facilitation skills and a good understanding of scripture and can be effective in following the procedures located in the Activities Manual, there is no dire need for participating in a facilitator training. However, we recommend attending the facilitator training to experience most of the program activities, see creative ways to conduct the sessions, receive additional facilitator tips not included in the Implementation Manual, hear interesting and helpful anecdotes of previous facilitating experiences, as well as meet other potential facilitators in which to network and find support.

All recognized facilitators will receive a 2% lifetime discount on program materials just for completing a Nurturing God's WayProgram Facilitator Training. In addition, if a seasoned program facilitator wishes to become a program trainer of facilitators, completing a recognized program facilitator training is one of the prerequisites.

How can I obtain training to be a facilitator?

HEARTS for Families is currently coordinating all program facilitator trainings throughout the United States and beyond. Please contact them for the various options of receiving training and if scholarships may be available.

Why is the program 21 sessions and not shorter / longer?

This program was designed for effectiveness covering an in-depth understanding of nurturing parenting within Christian families. The topics presented are all key aspects of creating a positive family experience within the Christian home. If there are other topics that would also benefit the participants, we give permission to add to the program. We discourage, however, any removal of the stated program topics. As further justification, research indicates it takes a minimum of 21 times of consecutive behavior to form a habit. We want to encourage Godly parenting habits.

Is the information about child victimization necessary to present?

Even as unpleasant as this topic is, there is a two-fold purpose for presenting this information to participants.

  1. To better prepare program participants in case a situation occurs with their child or another child who trusts the adult enough to ask for help. Individuals will never know how a situation will affect them until they have had an opportunity to feel, in a safe environment, what the experience may be like and then to better plan how to respond.
  2. To protect the child from possibly being victimized again.

Can non-Christians participate in this program?

We encourage all families who are interested in learning to be better parents to participate in this program. There may be concepts that are unfamiliar to some families (i.e. family prayer time). Extra time and attention may need to be provided, if desired, for some families to understand these concepts. Modeling the essence of 'living a life of love' inspires others and honors God.

Is this program valuable for parents with grown children or for grandparents?

Nurturing God's Wayprograms, Bible studies, and workshops that have been presented thus far have been well received by parents with children of all ages. The information presented is practical and enlightening. Also, the program focuses on building and encouraging positive relationships through more effective communication skills as well as developing a sense of empathy and trust. Grandparents have been quoted as saying:

"I not only have a better relationship with my grandchildren, but also with my adult children. We enjoy being together as a family more."

"Our respect for one another is greater from participating in this program."

"I thought I didn't need to take this course because I had already raised my kids. I'm so glad I decided to participate. I learned a lot."

"I thought I was attending to support my daughter and my granddaughter, to be a desirable role model for them. What I learned was that God wanted me to participate for me. I also learned how to relate better with my husband. I'm using the skills I learned with all of my relationships."

"I don't dread keeping my grandchildren anymore. What a blessing! We actually have fun when they visit."

"I know I made mistakes in raising my children. Now I won't repeat them with my grandchildren."

Can this program be used for families mandated to complete parent education classes?

This program qualifies and has been utilized as an appropriate class for families to choose when mandated by the court system or other governmental agencies. However, because of its explicit Christian nature, these agencies may choose not to pay for any registration fees or related costs, if there are any, for parents to participate.

Can this program be used as a Bible Study?

We consider this program to be an excellent Bible study and rather unique for adults. Most Bible studies use learning techniques that involve mostly knowledge gains. Yes, Nurturing God's Waylooks at scripture in each session; therefore, participants are encouraged to use Bibles in the group session but also in any home practice assignments they may have. In addition, this program has group activities that allow the participants to "feel" the concept; therefore, the experience of the knowledge presented becomes more meaningful to the participant. When knowledge has value, participants are more motivated to follow through with what they have learned. The same concept is applied to parenting techniques. Children learn through doing more effectively than being told what to do. And when the learning is fun, you can't go wrong!!

Has this program been validated through scientific research for effectiveness?

This program is an adaptation of a scientific researched and validated program, The Nurturing Parenting Programs®. The validation specific to this program is currently underway. If a group, agency or individual is interested in participating in this research, please contact the Nurturing Resources, 770-972-5390 or Toll Free 1-888-649-7376 or info@nurturinggodsway.com.

Why would a church be hesitant in providing this curriculum to its congregation and/or community members?

This program looks at the whole counsel of God in both the Old Testament and New Testament scriptures, keeping them in context for gathering the fullest and most accurate meaning to God's instructions to us regarding parenting. A church or individual who takes one scripture from the Bible and interprets it's meaning, or depends on the teachings that have been handed down from generation to generation to interpret scripture without truly seeking God's will and counsel may be hesitant about this program. We encourage everyone to check out the program and seek God's will regarding how and to whom the material should be presented.

Is this program in conflict with other Nurturing Parenting Programs®?

This program is specialized in that it's a Biblically-based adaptation of the Nurturing Parenting Programs®. It offers support and a more complete understanding of the basis for the Nurturing Philosophy through detailed scriptures from the Bible.

"One of the big issues for Christian parents is the misunderstanding many people have on the stand of the Bible, God, Jesus, and scriptures regarding the topic of corporal punishment. This program completely addresses this and provides the support Christian parents need to understand that non-violent parenting is 'God's Way'." Nadine Block, Director for the Center for Effective Discipline.

What are the plans to translate this program into other languages?

The publisher, Nurturing Resources, Inc. is in the process of researching the best way to complete this project. We anticipate the first translation to be in Spanish. Revisions and news about the translation project will be sent via email to those who have signed in for program update notification.

How can I find a Nurturing God's Way™ parenting class near me?

Nurturing God's Way parenting classes are being presented all of the United States. However, if you don't see a Nurturing God's Way that is close to you, contact your local church and ask them if they would be interested in providing this Bible study or program to their congregation and community members.

Do I have to take a class with a group of people or can I buy the Parent Handbook and study the information by myself?

The Parent Handbook is also designed for independent study. It is possible to use this book independently. We recommend that you have an accountability partner as you practice the steps and activities. Please keep in mind that within a group setting, group members receive a great deal of encouragement and support from other group members, which is not found if this program is studied independently. However, God meets us where we are. He will teach you many things as you study His word to help in being the Godly parent He wants you to be.
